Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Aaron Davis, CEO of Mountain Aerospace Research Solutions, located in Boulder City, NV, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our business is creating the world's most powerful and efficient air-augmented liquid-fueled rocket engines. Our engines are a revolution in transportation and access to space.

Tell us about yourself

I am a tenacious problem solver. I love what I do, and I love inventing new ways to help people. The cost of space access in terms of lives and money has been too high for decades. The time it takes to fly around the world from place to place with jet engines also takes too long and burns too much fossil fuel. Our company's invention, the Fenris Engine, is better than either Jet or Rocket engines. The Fenris engine will bring economic prosperity to the world like the jet engine did, just faster and without pollution. The Fenris engine also enables space access at a fraction of the cost of traditional rocket engines.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We are very proud to have received five patents on our Fenris engines. I am personally proud of all the work we have done with just a few people over the last four years. We have a large-scale test of a very powerful engine coming up, and it will send shock waves through the propulsion industry.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The challenges of bringing a new type of technology to market are daunting on the best of days. The propulsion industry is B2B and B2G, and those are some tough customers to get excited about changing their current solutions to a new solution. You have to be so good they cannot ignore you.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you want to be a billionaire, help a billion people.
  2. Being successful in business is a combination of internal fortitude and resilience combined with the ability to deploy capital efficiently. Also, you must be a good leader and work with people who are inspired by what you are doing. Make sure they are properly incentivized in order to achieve favorable long-term outcomes from their labor. This entails aligning their incentives with the long-term success of the company.
  3. Lean into the things you don't want to do. Do the hard stuff first every day, and the rest of the day will be better for it.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Build a team of people who are strong where you are weak. Don't put off the paperwork and stay organized from day 1.
