Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in beauty and cosmetics but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Shaquisha Frazier, Founder of A Mother's Touch MUA, located in Oklahoma City, OK, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

A Mother’s Touch MUA is a black-owned beauty business. Our main focus is to uplift and empowers women to help make them see their own beauty. A Mother’s Touch MUA is for everyone, from the makeup artistry to the cosmetics line.

Tell us about yourself

The pandemic jump-started my business. I was bored and started playing with makeup, and I loved it. Then I joined Mary Kay as a beauty consultant, starting the business side of makeup. From there, I was able to start my own business and create my own products, and now we’re here! My sons are my motivation. Everything that I’m doing is not only for myself but more so for my boys.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner so far is being able to talk about my business on “Living Oklahoma” with Malcolm Tubbs & Shelby Love, which premiers on FOX25. It was short and sweet, but it put my business on TVs of 1000s of Oklahomans!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is not having stable financial security. You’ll have days where you don’t make any money, and then you’ll have days where you make tons of money. So not having that security like a regular corporate job is probably the hardest, but you definitely have to keep pushing.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a plan! (Don’t go in blind. Figure out what the ultimate goal of your business is. Figure out what you need to execute the said goal. Make sure all of your ducks are aligned.)
  2. Be open to constructive criticism. (Some people know more than we sometimes do. Sometimes someone else’s perspective can help us see things differently. Taking constructive criticism allows you to continue to learn, and learning is the only way to grow.)
  3. Be consistent. (Even when you want to give up. When you think nothing is working in your favor. When you don’t know how things will turn around, remain consistent. Things take time. It’ll all work out in the end.
