Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Elizabeth Lykins, Owner of A Magnificent Metamorphosis LLC., located in Santa Cruz, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a transformational coach, a digital publisher of mindfulness-based books and magazines, and an author, with extensive training as a licensed medical provider and transformational coach. I have decades of experience treating patients in emergency medicine~urgent care, coaching clients one-on-one, and coaching in a group setting. I have dedicated my professional and personal life to supporting others as they transform their lives and awaken happiness from within.

My clients are people who are seeking inner transformation and relief from the grip of anxiety, worry, and unhealthy thinking. With free resources, low-cost digital and print publications, and transformational self-development through my coaching options, I provide support for a variety of clients seeking a more peaceful life from the inside out.

I also offer Mindfulness Merch that makes great gifts for family, friends, and co-workers. All of the merchandise offered in the Mindfulness Merch shop are created with uplifting and inspiring messaging. Current offerings include apparel for all ages, home living items, phone cases, laptop cases, Airpod cases, giclee art prints, bedding, throws, jackets, and more. Everything that I offer has one message in mind - Inner Transformation.

Tell us about yourself

As a medical provider for decades, while I love the science of medicine and treating patients, I saw that my options were limited in helping my patients beyond their urgent medical needs. Most of my patients suffer from worry and anxiety, no matter what problem I am treating them for in the emergency department or urgent care setting.

This motivated me to train as a coach, not only to help with my own busy mind but to help others to see there is a way out of anxious thinking without medications or endless techniques. The answer to this challenge is found within each of us. Understanding this concept dramatically changes lives. It certainly did in my own life.

This ability to transform, no matter what one's past or background may be, is what drives me to do what I do each day. While I still treat patients in an urgent care setting part-time, most of my time is spent creating ways to provide support for people who are seeking freedom from anxious thinking and all the challenges that they can cause outside of a clinical setting.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The accomplishment I am most proud of is authoring "Reflections on Transcendence" and publishing "Magnificent Metamorphosis Magazine." Both are designed to help the reader get out of their head and into a more reflective space - to look within for answers instead of looking to life circumstances to provide meaning in their lives.

While not everyone is ready for the commitment of both time and money for one-on-one coaching, providing low to no-cost resources for individuals needing support is the way I spread "pixie dust," leading to the world within. I feel privileged to be able to share this understanding with everyone in my sphere of influence. The subtitle of my book, Reflections on Transcendence, says it all - Everything You Have Been Searching for Is Already Inside of You.

Spreading this message in a variety of ways is my greatest accomplishment as a business owner.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the most challenging aspects of being a business owner is the investment of time needed to create, market, and provide the services of the business. Whatever amount of time one thinks they need to complete a project can easily be multiplied x 3 (and it still may take more time). Remaining open to inner guidance and the ability to change course when needed helps to smooth the bumps in the road ahead.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Love and believe in what you are selling.
  2. Research your product, the market for it, and how to connect with people who may want it.
  3. Be prepared for slow, steady growth.
