Tell us about yourself and your journey to where you are today...
I’ve been a full time mum to 2 beautiful girls for over 20 years. When they no longer needed me I looked for something to fill the empty days. Having always loved flowers and gardening I began a few online floristry courses. It blossomed from there. I then attended The Cambridge School of Floristry and qualified as a florist. Myself and my daughter began The Hampshire Flower Hut to try and offer a fully sustainable floral service. We believe in using paper rather than plastics. We never use floral foam as it’s so bad for the environment. During Lockdown we introduced our ‘hug in a jar’ a jam jar full of floral beauties. As we couldn’t hug in person it was the perfect substitute.
What motivates you each day?
My love of flowers and nature.
What makes your flower business stand out?
Fully sustainable flowers. No plastics used in any of our displays or bouquets.
What do you believe has led to the success of your floristry business?
We are wild and rustic, all our displays and bouquets are made to look like we’ve just picked them from an English garden. We specialise in weddings and Events for people who want a natural organic look and feel.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run or grow a small business today?
- Be true to yourself, have the confidence to stick to your own style.
- Learn from anyone and everyone who’s willing to offer advise.
- Be unique.
What are the tactics you put in place to maintain a healthy work/life balance?
Network - There isn't always enough time in the day but it is so great speaking to other florists and people in the industry! There is enough work to go around and recommendations go further than anything else!
What are some of the things you put in place to maintain a healthy work/life balance and to keep it all together?
Listen to your body. When you need a rest take one.

There is no right time to start a business - so ask yourself if not now... when?!!
