Tell us about yourself and your journey to where you are today...

I took some serious jobs before taking on my own restaurant in 2006 at 23 years old this really was an experience and I had achieved my life dream! However this left me feeling underwhelmed, exhausted and burnt out. So I sold up and started my family.

We took on a restoration project that happened to have the biggest garden ever, I threw myself into this, growing as many flowers as possible to give away, inspired by all of my grandparents who as war babies knew the value of allotments and the calm looking after nature gives you. Happy times and two children in we got married, a florist friend, Charlotte, helped to show me how to make my wedding flowers - that was it! Alarm bells going off - YOU NEED TO DO THIS.

However, life always has its own plans. A divorce later I was back into catering for a few years, until I met Mark, our relationship blossomed and we bought our house together in 2018, in the October he proposed and I said Yes, and again I thought I would do our flowers. I woke up one morning turned to Mark and said, "I am going to start an instagram business from our garage and I am going to be a wedding florist." ...and that is exactly what I did.

I went to night school, met up with a branding expert as I stood at point A looking in the distance at point B, I had no idea how to get there. I sorted out all the back of house work before I posted that first picture on instagram.

Wonderland blooms officially launched in November 2019 with 10 bookings already in the diary for 2020. Covid stopped play however I spent time building amazing relationships with other suppliers and venues near me.

What motivates you each day?

The brand, the flowers and the clients I attract. It's also the thrill! The feeling of joy seeing the brides' faces when you hand over the bridal bouquet.

What do you believe has led to the success of your floristry business?

Being consistent, even on the darkest of days when you feel like you are swimming backwards. Never looking right or left and comparing myself to anyone, Wonderland Blooms is part of me, it came from me. just like everyone else.
