Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sarah Bay, Founder of 8 Straight Sleep Consulting, located in Carbondale, CO, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Teaching your child to sleep can be overwhelming at best. I will work alongside you, providing tools, support, and some laughs along the way as you navigate these exhausting waters. I work with all caregivers. Soon you will know that good sleep is just around the corner.
Tell us about yourself
I have a passion for sleep, which all started when I wasn't getting any.
At 8 1/2 months old, my daughter - and my inspiration for this business - was waking up EIGHT (you read that right!) times a night to nurse. I was working full time out of the home and was one big hot mess. I read every sleep training book ever written and only became more confused - I just wanted someone to tell me what to do. I was too tired to make sense of all this advice. But, I had no one to help me, so I sucked it up and attempted to fix my own problem by utilizing a little from this book and a little from that book to develop a program I thought would work for me. Amazingly, it did. And I was hooked! I realized then that I had found my true passion and started working with any Mom that looked tired - which means I gained clients and experience REALLY fast. (Have you ever wanted to hug a Mom in the grocery store that just looked exhausted? Me too.) Eight years and somewhere around 600 babies and toddlers later, I find no better satisfaction than in watching families succeed and hearing the feedback that I was receiving from parents like you.
Sleep is something we all need every day and, surprisingly, not a skill we are innately born with. Teaching your child to sleep can be overwhelming at best. I will work alongside you, giving you tools, support, and some laughs along the way as you navigate these exhausting waters. When we complete our time together, your child will be sleeping, you will be functioning with far less coffee, and you'll find that life becomes manageable again. I look forward to our time together.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I feel accomplished with every family that completes their time with me feeling rested, accomplished, satisfied, and thrilled with the results that good sleep brings to the entire family.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Navigating the ups and downs. Owning a business is never linear, just like the babies I work with.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Trust yourself.
- Think big.
- Do it.
