Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in content creation but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Brian Firenzi, Founder of 5 Second Films, located in London, England, UK.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

From the very beginning, I told my team at 5SF that our mission was to exploit the land, devour its rich resources, and fatten our wallets. Secondarily, we might make some 15-year-olds laugh with short, 5-second comedy videos that we would upload every weekday. This was in 2009, though, so those 15-year-olds are now cresting 30 and questioning their own life choices, as I have mine.

Tell us about yourself

I'm the first human to ever emerge from the ocean, a full-fledged adult screaming. I don't know how I got started at this, but I know my main motivation is never to return to the wet world.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Generating next to no business while still attracting guest stars as varied as Patton Oswalt, Andrew W.K., Weird Al Yankovic, Juliette Lewis, Fred Armisen, and more. These people would, like, enter our kitchen and stuff. Wild. Oh, and one time, we held a lecture at Pixar about the art of micro-comedy, and they let us clamber and scamper through their secret passageway to a drinking room ensconced within the walls of the animation department. These days, I would say our biggest accomplishment is that we knew to end 5SF on a high note - wrapping up daily production after five years straight, having never missed a single weekday - and then shooting the cult comedy horror spoof "Dude Bro Party Massacre III," which surprisingly did not get obliterated on Letterboxd. To this day, it still sells out screenings, and a burlesque dancer even did a themed performance in tribute to it. Bet no one's ever done that for "Nomadland."

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Luigi always pushes me down and takes my bicycle. He always does this. Papa makes him stop.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start huge
  2. Get small.
  3. Get into my little jean pocket, the tiny one that's inside the normal pocket.

Oh no, I can hear the ocean again. These must have been bad tips.
