Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in property restoration but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Devin Brown, Founder of 360 Property Restoration, located in Binghamton, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We offer property restoration services to residential and commercial customers. Whether it's storm damage, fire damage, or water damage, we get your home back into shape. Our main service is mold remediation. Whenever there is flood, water, or fire damage, a person's home is at risk for mold. We get rid of the mold and take measures to prevent future outbreaks.

Tell us about yourself

I started in property restoration, working for the biggest companies in the United States. I fell In love with it; something about helping customers in their time of need I really enjoyed. Eventually, breaking off on my own because I knew I could do better for the customers. In property restoration, you are often dealing with a family home. I always felt our job was to take care of the problem and get the owner and their family back to life as "normal." The larger companies are mostly concerned with getting the biggest profit from each job.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would say my biggest accomplishment as a business owner is building my business from the ground up. I started at zero and have grown 360 Property Restoration into a thriving business.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Doing the work of 5 people at once. When you are a business owner, there is no such thing as "that's not my job." When work needs to be done, and there is nobody else around, it falls on you.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't listen to your doubters. Lots of people who are doubting you doubt themselves. Believe in your abilities and follow your passion. Anyone not on your side is just noise.
  2. Don't hold back; believe in yourself and manifest your dream into reality. A lot of people fail at running their own businesses because they let self-doubt take over. Don't let it. If you know you can make it happen, don't stop until you make it!
  3. Don't let stress overpower you. Before you start your business journey, get into the mindset that you will have far more stressful moments than stress-free. In fact, any stress-free moments will be rare. And always remember, the more you put in, the more you get out!
